L'incontro con le Corbusier

Nel 1946 a New York Nivola conosce Le Corbusier, maestro dell’architettura moderna, e intreccia con lui un'amicizia destinata a durare fino alla morte di questi nel 1965. Sotto la guida dell'architetto, l'artista dà avvio a un periodo di intensa sperimentazione che lo porta ad abbandonare lo stile realistico utilizzato sino a quel momento (un esempio ne è qui l'olio del 1946 Ruth e Pietro in cucina). Tra il 1947 e il 1950 realizza pochi quadri e moltissimi disegni, ispirati al linguaggio post-cubista, all’esempio del Le Corbusier pittore e a quello di Fernand Léger, ma anche al Surrealismo: da questo lavoro di ricerca scaturiranno poco dopo le sue prime esperienze nella scultura.

Meeting Le Corbusier

In 1946 in New York, Nivola meets Le Corbusier, one of the great masters of modern architecture and they start a friendship destined to last until the death of the architect in 1965. Under Le Corbusier's guidance he begins a period of intense experimentation, leaving aside the realistic style typical of its previous work (see here Ruth and Pietro in the kitchen, an oil painting from 1946). Between 1947 and 1950 he produces paintings and a multitude of drawings inspired by post-Cubism, by Le Corbusier’s and Fernand Leger's paintings, as well as by Surrealism. This period of exploration and research will soon bear fruit in Nivola’s first sculptural works.
