L’opera appartiene alla prima serie di sculture realizzate con la tecnica del sandcasting, raffiguranti figure femminili dall’aspetto primitivo (non a caso intitolate Totem dall’artista), fortemente stilizzate e con gli attributi sessuali in evidenza, ispirate tanto alla vita popolare quanto all’arte preistorica della Sardegna. Questa scultura, in particolare, riprende la forma di un celebre marmo dell’era neolitica conservato al Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari. L’immagine femminile, simbolo di accoglienza, protezione e forza generatrice, sarebbe diventata uno dei temi favoriti dell’artista.

The work belongs to the first series of sculptures made with the sandcasting technique. Primitive-looking female images (hence named Totem by the artist), the highly stylized figures, with their evident sexual attributes, reveal the influence of both the folklore and prehistoric art of Sardinia. This sculpture in particular, recalls the form of a famous marble piece from the Neolithic Era conserved at the National Archeological Museum of Cagliari. The female figurem, symbol of acceptance, protection and generative energy, will become one of the artist’s principal themes.
